Why it's Always Chilly on Airplanes: An Eye-Opening Insight from a Flight Attendant

Image
Have you ever wondered why it’s always cold on airplanes, no matter the season? Vanessa Settimi, a flight attendant for Swoop Airlines, revealed the unexpected reason behind the chilly cabins in an interview with Reader’s Digest. According to Settimi, the reason behind the cold temperatures on planes is not to make passengers uncomfortable, but for safety reasons. The cool temperatures help prevent the spread of germs and bacteria, as well as reduce the risk of dehydration during flights. Additionally, the cold air helps keep passengers alert and awake, especially during long-haul flights. So next time you find yourself shivering in your se...... Read Full article on HadNews

Here’s what we found when we reviewed the evidence – not just for winter, but also for the summer ahead. The importance of bedding We rely on our bedding to maintain a comfortable temperature to help us sleep. And the right textiles can help regulate our body temperature and wick away moisture from sweat, promoting better ...... Read Full article on HadNews

Lithium-ion batteries don’t work well in the cold − a battery researcher explains the chemistry at low temperatures

Image
Rechargeable batteries are great for storing energy and powering electronics from smartphones to electric vehicles. In cold environments, however, they can be more difficult to charge and may even catch on fire. I’m a mechanical engineering professor who’s been interested in batteries since college. I now lead a battery research group at Drexel University. In just this past decade, I have watched the price of lithium-ion batteries drop as the production market has grown much larger. Future projections predict the market could reach thousands of GWh per year by 2030, a significant increase. But, lithium-ion batteries aren’t perfect...... Read Full article on HadNews
